Getting your college applications prepared? Good — it’s almost time to turn them in.

Here’s a list of the early deadlines for some of the Carolinas’ biggest schools. (Most regular decision deadlines are in January.) You can also learn more from Carolina College Bound about early decision, early action and other college-application terms – along with what schools offer early decision – here.

N.C. State

The deadline is Oct. 15 for early action. You’ll hear if you’re in by Jan. 30. At N.C. State, early action is not binding: You don’t have to withdraw your other applications if you get in.

“We don’t necessarily give priority to early action applicants in the review process but you do receive priority consideration for scholarships as well as our honors and scholars programs.”

UNC

The deadline is Oct. 15 for early action. You’ll hear if you’re in by the end of January. At UNC, early action is not binding: You don’t have to withdraw your other applications if you get in.

“What is due at each deadline? Just your online application and your application fee, but we ask that you submit the other parts of the application (transcripts, test scores and supporting materials from your teacher/counselor) within 2-3 weeks after the deadline.”

N.C. Central

The deadline is Oct. 15 for the first priority. N.C. Central admits applicants on a rolling basis.

Duke

The deadline is Nov. 1 for early decision. You’ll hear if you’re in by Dec. 15, and you must reply to the decision by Jan. 5.

“In applying Early Decision, students commit to enroll at Duke if they are admitted in December. Students who apply Early Decision to Duke may apply to other schools through any regular, rolling, or nonrestrictive early programs that will not place them into conflicting agreements with either institution. If admitted to Duke, Early Decision candidates agree to withdraw any applications that they have submitted to other schools.” (Read the full breakdown of early decision here.)
